On the 4th March 2022, the London Borough of Bexley put up a flag for Ukraine outside its Civic Offices. This public declaration of solidarity is just one of the many things the Bexley community is doing to support Ukraine during this crisis. #StandWithUkraine

Councillor Teresa O’Neill OBE, Leader of the Council stated that, “Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine, who suddenly find themselves caught up in a war few of them expected and for which there is no justification.”

The Old Bexley & Sidcup Labour party have launched a drop off point in Sidcup, for the Ukraine appeal, requesting for essential items like medical supplies, women’s sanitary items, and baby food jars. The support from the community has been incredible and they’ve collected many donations.

If you want to donate any items, the Old Bexley & Sidcup Labour party regularly update their twitter account on specific items that they need and when to drop them off at the Labour Party Office, 31 Sidcup Hill, DA14 6HJ. They’re currently looking for help to transport all the donations to the Lewisham Polish Centre, who will then take these items to the Ukraine border.

More local schools and supermarkets in the area are showing their support for Ukraine through collections or messages, with Townley Grammar school setting up a tree that students can tie ribbons to with words of kindness, as well as individual-led drop offs.

The borough has also promoted many different organisations that are providing aid to Ukraine right now that you can support, for example the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal, Unicef, the UNHCR Refugee Agency emergency appeal, and With Ukraine, that provide assistance to refugees, families, and those in need, with shelter, blankets, food, and more.
