Amsterdam, written, directed and produced by David O. Russell is a period comedy thriller which portrays three friends who altered the course of american history. This story of how America escaped the same fate of Germany in the 1930's is filled with intrigue, fascination and mystery. Beautifully depicted is the history behind it however it is amazingly absorbed into the fictional element of the movie. Although not all based on true events, the movie highlights the main ideas and candidly creates a motion picture that leaves its viewers in awe.

The movie is based on the 1933 political conspiracy in the US and follows the life of the three friends, a doctor, a lawyer and a nurse, who are entangled with the mysterious murder of a retired US general, whom both doctor and lawyer as army veterans, had known. The Film captivates the atrocity of fascism, while also relaying the message of friendship and alliance. The three leading actors Margot Robbie, Christian Bale and John David Washington displayed an amazing chemistry on set as many film critics noted. The 2022 film also had a great ensemble cast including distinguished actors like Robert De Niro, Anya-Taylor Joy, Chris Rock and even record-breaking singer songwriter Taylor Swift.

However, the movie had quite a lot of critisism despite its great attributes. An article by Johnny Oleksinski on the New York Post online regarded it as 'hard to follow' even describing the movie as 'the worst movie ever'. His view of the performance was that it was altogether 'over-acted' and not properly structured. These comments although may be exagerated could have a hint of truth. Amsterdam's plot was slightly disorganized at times and the acting came across as if the actors were overdoing it.

Nevertheless, Amsterdam is a movie which leaves its viewers speechless. As to the critisism, many blockbuster movies received similar reviews even though featuring stars and containing an astonishing plot much like Amsterdam. With its sense of purpose and ability to stun it might be able to reach the top of the ladder of success. It is listed as a potential blockbuster and even though not yet at the top, Amsterdam could possibly become a major movie hit.
