Students from City of London Freemen’s school are in the process of curating their take on the festive tale ‘A Christmas Carol.’

The performance will be shown on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of December and is promised to be a riveting, unique and above all, joyous celebration of Dicken’s classic Christmas novella. The cast are working tirelessly as the performance dates draw closer, bringing together the works of a music band, choir, dance group and set designers to form a cacophony of festive cheer.

Jeremy Colton, head of the drama department at City of London Freemen’s school is directing the performance. He explains "There is an inherent theatricality in Dickens’s storytelling and apart from the Nativity, it’s hard to think of a more seasonal tale.” It is beyond a doubt that there is nothing more suitable than the works of Dickens to fill audiences with the festive anticipation that arises as Christmas approaches ever nearer.

The acting cast of ‘ A Christmas Carol’ consist of around 30 students ranging from the ages of 13 to 18 as well as musicians of a variety of ages. Having started their rehearsals in early October, they are full of excitement and anticipation to share the results of their work. “I have thoroughly enjoyed directing this year’s Senior Play and I know the cast are excited to share the fruits of their labour with audiences at the Ferndale Theatre" Jeremy Colten agrees.

As well as the music and acting sides of this production, programmes, lighting and sounds effects and even a video trailer has been developed by the technical team. These programmes and trailer have been shared on social media platforms meaning ticket sales have shot up at faster rates than any past school production at City of London Freemen’s School. Some of the performances are looking to be sold out, the last of which will take place as a matinee performance after the school Christmas fair, a wonderful ending to what is sure to be a joyous day.

Tensions are building as the cast draw nearer to showcasing the production they have worked so hard on over the last two months. ‘A Christmas Carol’ is the perfect choice of play for the festive season and with its fantastic cast and director, will be without a doubt a school production not to be missed.
