XC Skatepark is one of the most welcoming, inclusive skateparks in England, accommodating to skateboarders, scooter riders and BMX riders. The Hemel Hempstead skatepark has something for everyone, and can serve skaters of any ability. As well as that, XC caters for other extreme sports such as climbing, caving, bouldering and high ropes.
Possibly the most developed skatepark in Hertfordshire, it has an extensive street section filled with rails, boxes and quarter pipes. A fan favourite always seems to be the expansive concrete pool and bowl complex, with pool coping imported directly from California. The bowl measures a staggering 8ft in the deep end, perfect for vert skaters who dare test the intimidating heights.
While on the subject of intimidating heights, XC has the only resi ramp installed near London, featuring foam underlay for a (slightly) softer landing. The resi is the most popular feature in the entire skatepark, often creating queues for a shot at the towering wall of resin. Luckily, spaces are limited for each session, so queues will never be too long and there is always enough room for all to take advantage of what is offered.
The foyer opens into a seating area with refreshments available, as well as a viewing area for those taking breaks or watching. Sessions for two and a half hours begin at £11 for ages eight plus, a bargain price for the features offered and the quality of the skatepark. In addition, the atmosphere inside the warehouse is friendly, with more experienced skaters always happy to provide guidance to others.
