You know it’s Christmas time in London when Winter Wonderland opens up in Hyde Park. This is the mark of the festive season, and it opened on November 17th and closes on the 1st of January. Its captivating attractions entice all locals and tourists, and their lights brighten the city up when the dark hits.
In my experience on a Saturday afternoon in November, the public transport was running quite well on the journey there and the traffic wasn’t too bad going into the city centre. For all the non-Londoners out there, directional signs have been put up so you can easily find your way. The entry was really quick and easy. Entry is free for all those who spend over who spend over £25 on attractions, rides or food. Tickets per ride tend to cost between £7 - £9 but these don’t cover repeats.
The ice rink is very popular, along with the ferris wheel that gives you a spectacular view of London’s skyline. An alternative view of London is also on offer if you are daring enough to endure a ride 85 metres up into the air and an exhilarating drop back down. Don’t you worry, rides are on offer for those who aren’t as enthused by the largest attractions. However, the entertainment doesn’t end here. Stalls are located across the park where you are able to win prizes. These prizes vary from technology to food to stuffed animals as big as a metre long.
Although there are several different food stalls for you to choose from, some may argue that the prices are on the higher end. There are also not many places to sit down to eat these enjoyable meals or just to take a break from all the excitement. Getting home on the train during a peak hour was also a bit rough as the stations were packed and you are also greeted by the hustle and bustle of the fellow Londoners.
Overall, Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderful is highly recommended and is known as the most delightful celebration of the holiday season. It offers a range of activities and attractions for all ages that capture the enchantment and merriment of Christmas. The park is a must visit destination if you are seeking a festive thrill.
