Swimming has been a competitive sport for hundreds of years and is one of the most popular sports in the UK. If you are interested in swimming at a competitive level and want to improve your strength and fitness by swimming because it is something that you have always enjoyed, then there are many clubs all around the UK that are there to help you.

One of these competitive clubs is the Kingston Royals Swimming Club. It has been running for over 40 years and their goal is to help their swimmers to reach their highest potential. They have several coaches in the club that train a range of different abilities/skills and performance levels.

Kingston Royals train at a few different locations: The New Malden Leisure Centre, the Hurst Leisure Centre, Claygate Primary School and Lady Eleanor Holles School (Hampton). The club is structured into many different levels, of which the highest train for regional and national level competitions, and the lower levels are more focused on helping swimmers to become more confident at a competitive level. The highest squad in the club have up to 8 training sessions a week which shows the dedication and commitment that they have to achieving their goals in swimming.

The clubs’ Head coach Paul Hurley has been coaching at Kingston Royals for 9 years and has been a swimming coach for 27 years after being a school teacher at Bacon’s College in Southwark. He has helped the swimmers to reach all their goals and the biggest achievements he has helped his swimmers to attain have been a silver medal in the British Championships and a silver medal in The Commonwealth Games. His biggest achievement and contribution to the club is that he has ‘helped the club to thrive in a post-pandemic environment’.

He hopes to help the club gain many more achievements in the future and he says that one of his favourite parts of swimming are ‘The people that I meet’. The swimming club, just like many others around the UK are always happy to have more swimmers to join and are such a welcoming community. Kingston Royals also has classes and sessions for para swimming, water polo, open water and masters swimming.
