In celebration of Black History month, Caribbean street food is served, live music and spoken word are all featured at Allotments N11, based in North Finchley.

This diverse and captivating community space is thriving but how has it got here, who aided in its journey, and what are its plans for the future?

The Allotment N11 menu is highly praised by the community as they indulge into the authentic Caribbean street food served including Mijadra, baked yucca, butternut squash stroganoff, breaded shitake mushrooms, spiced chicken and more, yet Nigeal exclaims his best-selling dish is love…

“Love goes in places where food cannot physically go, love that people receive here transcends into the food they eat” – Nigeal Andall

Nigeal the owner of Allotments N11 was generous enough to share his humble beginnings; During the Covid 19 pandemic Nigeal had embarked on his voyage with a foodbank, supplying around 20,000 meals to the disadvantaged every month.

“I wanted to do something that has social benefit to our community” – Nigeal Andall

Therefore, he had meticulously planned, crafted, designed and catered a Caribbean themed space to promote social inclusion, diversity and his most important goal of all; to positively impact the youth.

“I want to use food as a means of engaging and empowering young people to be active citizens in their community!” – Nigeal Andall

In doing so Nigeal has employed sixty-eight young people through his time, upgraded to a warehouse with five commercial kitchens and further benefits society with his use of hydroponics (science of growing plants with mineral nutrient salts in water, rather than soil).

Nigeal’s future initiatives include expanding by duplicating this concept in a different area and reaching out to a different demographic.

Though his ultimate goal is to promote sustainability, promoting people owning their own hydroponic kits if they have no green spaces of their own, to prove to our society that anything is possible.

Allotments N11's message to you this Black History Month is…

One love, One people, One Community
