A program in Hounslow schools to encourage young students to continue learning languages in university was set in motion on 18th October. It was launched to current Year 12 students who have taken up A-Level languages as one of their subject choices.

The goal of the "Languages For All" project is to encourage more state school pupils to pursue language studies beyond their GCSEs and into university. It exists to make the A-level in languages more engaging and pertinent to the futures of young people, as languages are in high demand in the workplace.

Michael Slavinsky, Languages for All director, affirms that “Languages For All is a partnership between schools and Royal Holloway University, and it's all about schools working together to make it possible for A-level language students - even when they are in very small classes in their respective schools - to experience the best the best trips”.

These experiences provide opportunities that are helpful to unlocking a successful career that involves languages in the future.

A local student who participated in the launch trip to the Royal Holloway University, Channelle Cervantes, said that the trip was “a good opportunity for students (state schools in particular) to immerse themselves in the stimulating environment of learning languages at university”.

On the outing, students got to do a tour of the grounds and experience a university-style lecture about leadership and languages.

Languages For All provides a multitude of events and activities that will aide A-Level language learners in their studies, as well as help them when making choices about their future (whether that be in further education or the workplace).

Individuals who are involved in this program will receive extra support in university applications and their official exams that will take place in June 2026.
