As we approach these cold winter months you may start dreaming about warmer climates elsewhere, well paradise is only 8 hours away…
You must consider the tropical island of Barbados, you may know it for its iconic white sand beaches, all year round hot weather, maybe even the cricketer Sir Garfield Sobers or pop singer Rihanna. When visiting, it is hard not to fall in love with its culture and relaxed way of life.
So this is a list of the top things I believe you cannot miss when visiting the Caribbean Island Barbados.
1.Boatyard
For me, a perfect day spent in Barbados is at the beach club Boatyard where the sea is crystal clear and the sand is pure white.
Here you can have fun jumping off the pier, snorkelling to see tropical fish and even taking a boat further out to see turtles.
2. Oistins
Another thing you cannot skip on your visit is Oistins where every friday night, the Oistins fish fry is held, you can take the yellow reggae bus into the town and experience live music, craft stools to get souvenirs and most importantly, the food from local vendors
3. Surf lesson
Despite having visited Barbados quite a few times, it was only this year I decided to try my hand at surfing and I can say it's one of the best things I have done there.
A strong recommendation is the Dread or dead surf shop where they take you to a perfect surfing location on the island and you are taught in just under an hour how to surf the perfect wave, which leaves you feeling great achievement and just wanting to surf more..
4. Crop Over
If you are lucky enough to visit Barbados around the time of the celebration of Crop Over (around late July to early august) you will find yourself extremely involved in the island's culture and feeling its vibrancy and liveliness at this time of year.
This festival historically celebrates the end of the sugar season and as excitement builds up to the day of the Grand Kadooment, which is the carnival parade where elaborate costumes are worn and Bands march through the street, carnival music plays on the radio, large markets are held and the famous Calypso is held.
Overall, Barbados is an extremely cultural and animated country whilst also being the perfect holiday location…
