Lime bikes are a relatively new way of eco-friendly transport that the city council is implementing into society.
Whether to say it is an innovative idea or not is what we will be discussing today.
How Lime Bikes Work
Lime bikes work on a pay to ride basis.
You require a phone to download the lime app which is crucial to access the lime bikes system.
Following this you require a debit or credit card as the lime bikes do not take cash and it is essential to have a card on you.
To ride the lime bikes Lime charges a fixed rate (£1.00) to unlock an e-bike and then 19p per minute to ride.
An Eco-Friendly, Health-Conscious Option
The lime bikes are an eco-friendly transport option as they do not emit greenhouse gases at all and most of them are even electric making these an extremely eco-friendly transport.
The lime bike being available transport also encourages exercise.
Challenges and Concerns
The introduction of lime bikes has definitely reduced the efficiency of transport in roads.
This happens when immature people go and dump these bikes in the middle of roads.
When people are trying to get to work at night or early morning, based on the vehicle, bikes in the middle of roads can pose an extremely dangerous obstacle ,that an innocent truck, car or van might not see.
Another problem is that it also promotes vandalism and stealing, as many people hack the lime bikes by breaking them and taking out the tracker, just so they can use them as an ordinary, everyday bike without paying the fee everyone else has to.
A lot of people are also graffitiing on them as a way to promote gangs or something even more dangerous.
Disabled people who ride on scooters also do not have a way to overcome the problems of lime bike dumping, as they are unable to get up and move these out of their path in a safe way.
Due to the addition of lime bikes crashes have been more prone to occur due to it being slightly unbalanced.
Another thing is that injuries are a lot more serious when falling or crashing with these bikes since they are so much heavier and are prone to crashing.
A Positive Community Response
The initial community response was optimistic and positive about this new way to get around.
Many people were excited to use these new and this thrilling new way to move without polluting the earth.
Unfortunately, this initial energy died down extremely quickly due to the fact that many people started misusing the lime bikes.
