On Friday 27th September, London’s Colfe’s School held a bake sale to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity founded in 1911 which aims to support people effected by cancer.

It does this by organising many different charity events to raise money for the cause, such as by doing physical activities or holding fundraisers.

The event was run by their Sixth Form Committee, a group of dedicated Year 12 students who organise different affairs throughout the year, and this was their first event as the new cohort of 2024.

One of these dedicated students stated that they chose the Macmillan Cancer Support as their charity because “it is a national charity event”.

When asked why they wanted to get involved, they said, “I have always wanted to contribute towards the school’s effort in supporting the greater good. Throughout my previous years in Colfe’s, I have done little to help, always claiming that I would do something for the next event. I am happy to say that I am doing something within the committee and helping with the bake sale.”

At 10:40am that day, students from Year 7 to Year 11 rushed through the halls to buy cupcakes, brownies and more to support this honourable cause.

The Year 12 student stated that it was a “bustling atmosphere”, and that “a special effort was made for those with food intolerances to be able to eat, for instance gluten-free cookies were brought”, showing how the event was highly inclusive for everyone involved.

Attending the fundraiser was great fun, and the cupcake that I bought was even better, especially knowing that my money was going to an important cause.

In the end, the school raised £239.10 for the cause, all in just one morning’s bake sale!

It was a very successful event: one which brought the school together and raised some much-needed funds for a very worthy charity.
