In the Night Garden was a childrens TV show that premiered from 19 March 2007 to 6 March 2009.

It featured quite the iconic characters such as Makka Pakka, Iggle Piggle, Upsy Daisy and the Tombliboos.

The episodes would consist of Iggle Piggle and the other characters going on some sort of adventure and having fun together.

However, the beginning and end of the episodes would always feature Iggle Piggle all alone and sleeping on his boat, in comparison to his other friends who would always go to bed early.

It was found out later in an interview on 5th October 2010 that Davenport had a deeper meaning behind Iggle Piggle's loneliness during night in the episodes.

"Bedtime really commands a child's entire day. Very often children don't have a proper sense of time. They live with the idea that, at any moment, someone could just take them from what they are doing and send them to bed. It can be a difficult moment: being suddenly alone. So In the Night Garden makes a metaphorical explanation for sleep, which is one of the only things in a child's life it can't be accompanied on. That's why you have the image of Iggle Piggle alone on a boat at the start, floating on a dark swelling ocean that's a metaphor for sleep."

Iggle Piggle's loneliness that I used to find quite sad had a deeper meaning to it in the end.

The change from childhood to teenage is a big jump and along the way we tend to lose most of our childish antics and views of the world, and therfore can no longer understand this sentiment.

However, in a world where insomnia is slowly increasing as we replace our nights of sleep with technology instead, maybe it is time to go back, rewatch the show and fall asleep.
