What kind of movies come to mind when you think of autumn?
Today, I’d like to recommend two movies to watch before the autumn season goes away.
These movies are great to watch whenever you want to spend time at home with your family.
1. Little Forest: Summer/Autumn (2014) This is a Japanese healing movie where the main character, Ichiko, becomes disillusioned with city life due to the complex city life and the breakup with her boyfriend; returns to her quiet rural hometown where she used to live alone with her mother.
However, her mother had left home five years ago, and Ichiko, feeling her mother's absence, moved to the country house alone.
Ichiko begins life in a small forest village, where it takes more than an hour to get to the city.
Although there are no major events or plots in the movie, the overall movie flows calmly and shows the story of Ichiko's peaceful rural life.
She buys her own ingredients to make bread or harvest crops she has grown herself to make drinks or jam.
‘Little Forest’ is a movie that doesn't have a titillating plot or gaudy visuals.
However, its calmness definitely gives comfort to the audience.
This film captures the beauty and nature of a quiet rural village.
Now that we're standing at the end of autumn, or maybe it's already winter, I think it would be a good idea to enjoy this movie and reminisce about the past summers and autumns to heal yourself.
2. Nightmare Before Christmas(1993) This is a stop-motion animation musical film made around 30 years ago but it is still a great classic to watch in between Halloween and Christmas with your family.
Jack successfully leads the Halloween event every year and is known as the Pumpkin King.
Although he is the number one contributor to the Halloween event, Jack is tired of the daily routine that repeats itself every year.
After Halloween, Jack walks through a forest he had never seen before, and accidentally discovers a door leading to Christmas Village which he gets sucked into it.
In Christmas Village, he becomes captivated by new emotions he had never felt before, such as joy and happiness.
Jack wanting to share Christmas with the Halloween Town residents, tries to make them understand Christmas.
He mistakenly introduces Santa Claus as Sandy Claws, but the Halloween Town residents are fascinated by this fact and are as enthusiastic as Jack.
The Halloween Town residents kidnap Santa Claus and prepare to run Christmas by themselves.
Jack eventually becomes Santa in his way and gives out presents, but Christmas becomes a day of fear rather than a day of happiness.
We all want to find our roles and be recognized.
However, we often don’t think about the fact that others look good because they are doing their roles well.
This movie allows us to realize that we often have to pretend to be good at things we don’t like.
Or, like Jack in the movie, we can lose interest and turn away from things we used to like.
We know that it is not as easy as it sounds to make something you like something you are good at or to continue liking it.
This movie questions the lives of a world where a single line on a high school report card can change your life.
When will we ever be able to meet this difficult balance?
If only our lives had clear choices like Jack's.
