The startup FastDeer is soon launching a new golf rangefinder - uniquely allowing golfers to track the precise distance to the hole for playing partners as well as themselves.

Laser golf rangefinders are extremely widespread in the golfing world, as monitoring the exact remaining distance to the hole is seen as essential – so much so that the rangefinder is often considered the 15th golf club.

As a result, the FastDeer startup, based in Hampton, is looking to innovate, introducing a unique array of features to its extremely light – 155g – laser rangefinder.

This includes the ability to find the distance to the hole for fellow golfers without having to walk across the fairway, as well as a full colour touchscreen display.

The upcoming device has an entirely different look and feel to all other rangefinders in the market, boasting a premium leather finish supporting a futuristic metallic design.

Kai, the Managing Director of FastDeer, feels Hampton is the “perfect home for innovation” to the market, owing to its close proximity to many different golf courses.

Rangefinders usually include a slope compensation mode, in order to consider gravity when taking a shot; for instance, a downhill shot may require less power than an uphill shot of the same distance.

The FastDeer rangefinder is no different, with the feature able to be toggled on and off as per the golfer’s wish, and as required by some tournaments.

In addition to the usual rangefinder capabilities, FastDeer has also uniquely incorporated a UV sensor to the device – giving golfers a reliable indicator of when to apply suncream.

This is the first time such a feature has been provided on any golf rangefinder in the world.

According to Kai, there are a “lot of new ideas on the roadmap”, and he and his team felt, through “in-depth conversations” with golfers in this area, that they can find some “elegant magic” to make the game “more confident and enjoyable” for all golfers.
