Reporting on the downfall in children literacy reading rates.

Due to the recent increase in the dependency of technology it seems that youth literacy levels are drastically dropping at an alarming rate.

Now more than ever, as the accessibility and availability to social platforms becomes more freely available, it can be common to find minors using social media.

This not only acts as a distraction, but also leaves them prone to inappropriate, endangering content which can be harmful to their mental health.

The ascent in new technology has allowed for an expansion in misleading content and misinformation, which can be easily and quickly spread online.

Fabricated content can often exasperate insignificant matters and intimidate children further, by pushing inaccurate agendas.

Layla, mother of two says, “I find the notion that children have accessibility to the internet harmful, I wouldn’t want my children to be exposed to content that could be damaging to their learning, or well-being.”

As a result of increased gaming and social media usage, a kaleidoscope of blinding, vivid colors bombard young children daily.

This can lead to an excessive spike of dopamine, which consequently could cause addiction. The time spent online, expands reliance on social media and constructs bad habits.

Hence, through the surge in digital content, children no longer find it essential or captivating to read or write for leisure or any other means.

As a means of policing unguarded minors from the dangers of the internet guardians, and carers, play a fundamental role in safekeeping their child.

A crucial role model or figure in a child’s life can shape their actions and future pursuits.

On that account, implementing screen time and child safety locks on certain apps could primarily rescue a child from negative content.

Additionally, introducing healthy habits and encouraging children to read and write can install patterns which could potentially increase or at least grow a child’s literacy rate.
