The birthplace of William Shakespeare, also known as Stratford Upon Avon, is a small town in Warwickshire, based in the West Midlands. 

It serves as a lovely tourist destination, with the theme of Shakespeare being a constant motif, and provides a nice educational day out for students and tourists alike.

Stratford Upon Avon is initially a market place, where trade would be most prominent, since as early as 1196, it was granted the right to host weekly markets.

At first glance Stratford may seem like a boring place, however there are many hidden gems and activities to do. 

Here are several suggestions of what to do in the historic town.

1. Visit Shakespeare's birthplace

Take a look around the house where the great author William Shakespeare was born, as well as delving into a brief history of the town, it is open to the public and offers an educational activity with its small museum.

2. Go to the theatre

The royal Shakespeare theatre is based here and puts on many plays all throughout the day, mainly being Shakespeare due to its location, yet the entertainment is guaranteed and the experience of going to a theatre is nice. 

3. Visit Anne Hathaway's Cottage

No it's not the actor, but in fact the birthplace of Shakespeare's wife, the quaint farmhouse is a  perfect place to visit and is beautifully maintained.

4. Visit the Market

Stratford has always been a market town, and markets are very common and held frequently, so there is a high chance that there may be one going on, if so have a look and see what treasures there are to find.

5. Grab a bite to eat

There is an abundance of places to eat in Stratford, so there won't be any struggle, ranging from rustic pubs to fine dining there, is a variety of choices to satiate hunger.

Recently a bunch of students visited Stratford for their English school trip and appeared to of had fun as they state

"Its a really nice town that has kept the old English style, I had fun going to the theatre and watching Othello, and when we walked around the town you could see there was quite a lot to do"

Stratford had made a good impression on the students as they enjoyed their school trip.

The small English town holds a lot of history and proudly presents it, by giving tourists a glimpse of what old England could have looked like, it stands to be a nice tourist spot.
