Christmas advent calendars are already being put out in many large supermarket chains across Britain, but is it too early?
When going on a visit to my local Maloney’s Budgens I noticed that Christmas advent calendars had already been put out from brands such as Cadbury and milky way.
I was surprised by this, as it is only the start of November right now, and advent calendars are only used from the start of December.
After investigating other supermarkets, I found out that Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Tesco’s were not only putting out Christmas advent calendars, but mince pies and Christmas puddings as well.
Is it too early for this though? Well, at Disneyland Christmas officially starts on 15th November, and at centre parcs its 7th November.
But Disneyland might not be the thing to go with. Most people would probably start Christmas shopping at some point in November, but should we be doing it later and closer to the actual month?
If Christmas shopping began in December, then maybe the Christmas spirit would be stronger as there is more anticipation for Christmas and people are out buying Christmas related items in large groups.
Additionally, Christmas items put on sale too early can legitimately become out of date before the December month even arrives.
Yet it’s not only Christmas being started early. Directly after Christmas one usually sees easter eggs like mini eggs being put on sale around four months before easter starts.
At the end of the day, for these supermarket chains its supply and demand as the people love these festive periods so much that they need them early, but it still makes me question the impatience of the human race and how it has slowly decreased.
