Merchant Taylors 1st XV defeated rival side Reading Blue Coat with brisk ease in their historic and well-anticipated matchup.

The side beat Reading Blue Coat 31-20, with James Dyer, Mustafa Syed and Anthony Poole all scoring well-crafted tries, player Jaidev Radia described it as ‘a match to be remembered.’

After a slow start the Lambs engine's warmed up, and with the school song being passionately chanted in the ears of the players, Taylors got to dominating-scoring 2 tries in the second half.

The Historic and communal importance of the Friday Night Lights game was not lost upon anyone, with start player James Dyer affirming that ‘The game was really important to me because it was an opportunity to play rugby in front of a crowd of my friends, family and teachers.

I have also wanted to play at FNL since I joined Merchant Taylors School in year 7, and I am overjoyed that I have finally got the opportunity to.’

Prior to the culminating moment of the Taylors week long rugby event, the 13th Rugby Week had already been getting off to a fully-fuelled start, with many students getting deeply entrenched in the Rugby Week spirit, by coaching younger years and helping out with Phab-a charity, fundraising to support disabled people, that shares rich history with Merchant Taylors School.

Year 12 student and member of the Rugby team Josh Reyes shared how he 'thoroughly enjoyed Rugby Week', stating that 'as a new joiner to the school, it was an amazing opportunity in which I could give back to the school community and I very much enjoyed assisting the under 14's with Mr Tod.'
