Anna Wintour has chosen American fashion designer Marc Jacobs as the first guest editor in the history of US Vogue.
For the December 2024 issue of the magazine, the editor-in-chief Anna Wintour chose to take US Vogue in a new direction.
In the past, other Vogues like the French Vogue and British Vogue had had guest editors in the past however, this is the first time in history the American copy has taken this route.
Wintour claims that she "Thought it was going to be a very emotional time" and that we "should all take a step back."
The result is different from the usual copies of Vogue, with contributions from people that have never worked for the magazine previously including Jeremy O. Harris, a playwright and actor.
The issue also features model and actress, Kaia Gerber who appears twice, in a photo taken by Stephen Meiseland (wearing a dress from Marcs previous collection) as well as a painting by Anna Weyant.
The issue incorperates themes of dance and creative expression and includes Jacobs’s Frank Lloyd Wright home which was photographed by Gregory Crewdson.
The issues release was so significant that it even had its own release party, a rare occurence.
Wintour was also questioned whether her taking a shift in direction means that she could take a further step back in the future but she quickly denys these suspicions.
"No. Absolutely not." she states. "I love my job. I love all aspects of it and hope to be able to do it for a long time to come."
