Are you interested in geopolitics and have a particular taste for debating and heated discussions? Are you interested about the history of other countries and their cultures?
In that case I believe you should sign up for Model Unites Nations ( MUN ) club at your school and attend the exciting conference at the Royal grammar school in Guildford. This is a private, all boys, secondary school filled with enthusiastic teachers and students ready to argue. I had the chance to attend the most recent conference and it was definitely an exciting event where you can meet many new people and hear about all corners of the world from one seat.
The conference begins at 10am with a 20 minute opening ceremony given to us by the students of RGS. Next (for the newcomers) there is a beginner talk provided by another student along with the girls from Guildford high helping to lead this event together. Many schools from all across England had attended and everyone was very friendly and were anxiously waiting for the debate to start. My country was Poland and I took part in a few small closed debates and then towards the end of the conference all schools and all countries met in one big hall to provide resolutions to a pretend scenario. Then there is a prize-giving for the best countries with well thought out arguments and attitudes ( however most of the people who won the prizes were also from Royal Grammar school in Guildford ). At 6 the conference has ended and many make their way to Guildford Station.
In conclusion, joining a Model United Nation club can be very beneficial for personal growth. It can help build more confidence and make you more outgoing and knowledgeable. So what better place is there than a MUN conferences like this where everyone is learning and making mistakes. I believe it is the perfect place to start your MUN journey.
