Shakespeare’s infamous tragedy reunited with The National Theatre once again after a decade.
This time with our tyrannical war hero played by the extremely talented David Oyelowo, who is most known for his incredible performance in the 2014 Selma film.
I had the privilege to watch Coriolanus last month at The National Theatre and it truly was something that captures both the modern world but also the Roman era.
The set explored such innovative ideas alongside the traditional Shakespearean language of the original play.
It created an atmosphere that is truly timeless, the plot of Coriolanus is something that can truly never become outdated.
What I liked the most about the show is how similar it is to the exact screen play written by Shakespeare himself even though the staging is modernised, and the actual period of time seems different with the cameras and modern military style costumes.
Overall, it was incredibly engaging and interesting to watch and seems completely different to the 2014 version with Tom Hiddleston, I enjoyed the aesthetic of the set and how relatable it is to society today.
It is interesting to see the development of traditional plays becoming transformed into more modern takes reflecting our society today.
