After watching the first gladiator film and being blown away by the terrific storyline and fighting scenes throughout, it was only natural that I was excited to watch the second film over 20 years after the first film's release.

I attended the film viewing at the Kingston Odeon cinema, with some friends.

I sat in my seat ready for a breath-taking performance from the Paramount pictures studio production team and I was not disappointed.

The film began with an immense fight scene in Numidia and this is where the Romans took a hold of their new gladiator (Paul Mescal) who would go onto shock every last person in the cinema.

Paul Mescal played the role of Lucius brilliantly and the film seemed to flow excellently from the first one many years ago.

The film was set 15 years after the heart-breaking death of Maximus and a similar life appeared to occur for his son Lucius after his capture.

He was forced to become a Gladiator, just like his father and rose through the ranks until the death of the twin emperors.

Famous actor Denzel Washington also features in the film and plays a huge role as Macrinus.

The film entered the international box office arena last weekend with 87 million US Dollars, since then it has generated 165.5 million US Dollars overseas and 221 million US Dollars globally. This officially makes it a box office success, just like the first film in 2000.

I interviewed my sister Clara on what she thought of the film after she went to see it in the cinema as well, she said: ‘I thought the film was great, not my favourite of all time but definitely the best film this year so far’.

Personally the cinematography was much better than the original, however I prefer the 2000 film due to its actors.

Overall the film was good and definitely worth a watch, but make sure that you have watched the original film before attending a viewing of the second one.
