November: a month famous for many for its cosy connotations of a warm drink, fleecy blanket and favourite novel.

And how better to share this beloved pastime than to exchange your bibliographical beliefs with fellow book-worms?

The Goodreads annual choice awards are a must for any reader's to-do list.

Goodreads, an American website and app, allows readers to: connect with the global reading community; track their progress towards their yearly reading goals and find their next best book.

The mobile version also allows users to scan the barcodes of items in their local shops and libraries, before automatically adding the scanned books to a 'to-read list'.

However, the feature most adored by Goodreads' members must be the Choice Awards.

Hosted annually, readers are given the chance to vote for their favourite books in a series of categories: the perfect beacon of light for many in these gloomy winter months.

Members vote for books in fifteen different categories, which vary from science fiction to memoirs.

Readers globally are thrilled to see that 'romantasy', a new category established in the awards last year, has remained amongst the genres chosen this year.

With a stunning vote count exceeding five million so far, avid reader Caitlin Hare says that she was "shocked to find out that this far surpasses the voter turnout for the 2024 London Mayoral Election!"

Although the winners are officially announced on 5th December, highlights of the awards include: 'Nothing Like the Movies', Lynn Painter; '1984', George Orwell and 'The Teacher', Freida McFadden.
