Released to the world on the 20th of September, Transformers One is universally agreed to be the best Transformers movie so why haven’t you seen it?
To put it simply, the marketing for this 10/10 movie has been abysmal; it’s been worse than if they didn’t market the movie at all. They marketed the movie as a kid’s film, a cash grab if you will. When I first saw the trailer I thought this too.
I’ve loved transformers since I was a wee child. I grew up watching Transformers: Prime (easily the best animated Transformers tv show), Transformers: Robots in Disguise and even Transformers: Rescue Bots.
I love this franchise and the lore behind it. What Transformers One allows us to do is dive deeper into the world of the Autobots and Decepticons; straight down to its leading rivalry, the one that everyone cares about, Optimus Prime and Megatron.
These two Transformers have been at it since the 80’s. They have had a word against each other for quite some time.
It is the origin of the Transformers, how Megatron and Optimus became who they were, even before Optimus was a Prime (essentially a god in this universe). We even get a really beautifully animated look into Cybertron: the planet where the Transformers are from and is usually destroyed in most tellings.
What makes this film so amazing is that there aren't any humans! What do I mean by that?
Well, in a Transformers film who do you want to see: the humans or the massive transforming robot aliens!!
The movie is wonderfully made and has the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson and Keegan-Michael Key. This cast puts a fun spin on the Transformers and makes us genuinely invested in these multi-generational characters.
It’s amusing and serious but the tone never feels out of place. The story strings together perfectly and makes sense even to people that have never been introduced to Transformers before. The movie is surprisingly funny and has some adult themes while being more than suitable for all ages.
The film may look like just another kids film however it is so much more than that; it is a multi-generational story about brotherhood, ideologies and what path will you take to make the world a better place.
Transformers One is fantastic, bold and easily one of the best movies of 2024. Go please watch Transformers One!
