We live in a world today where the fashion industry is not the most diverse and unapologetic towards the non-white population of the world. However, 22 year old Muslim blogger Habiba Da Silvia has decided to break the rules. She has created a line of Hijabs called SKIN that are suitable and made for all Skin tones , for all religions and inspired by “togetherness”. At 21, Habiba Da Silva has already gained over 500,000 followers on Instagram and over 10,000,000 views on Youtube as a lifestyle, beauty and fashion blogger.

The collection is based around the idea of marriage, not the bond between the couple but the different cultures and races of people all around the world. The blogger states “The word, ‘marriage’, is all about bringing entities together. This is what SKIN is about.” Her hijabs are named after words in different languages relating to marriage. The lightest shade is called ‘Zaffeh’, the Arabic phrase for “wedding march”, and the darkest is ‘Aure’, the Hausa word for “marriage”.‘Aroosadda’, a rich brown, is the Somali word for “bride” and ‘Rukhasti’, a warm caramel, translates as “sending off” in Urdu.

Although the collection has been flooded with positive feedback, the blogger has faced criticism on her pricing. Each Hijab retails for £20. Habiba explains the reason to why they are harshly priced is due to the amount of investment and care that has been put into this brand. Furthermore, the added personal touch of the packaging delivers an outstanding quality product to your doorstep.

The fashion industry's awakening to inclusivity has been a slow one. It wasn't so long ago that the colour "nude" only meant one shade, a hue that excluded a huge portion of shoppers. However, this is changing as small retailers like Habiba Da Silvia bind Muslim women’s voices to the mainstream fashion.
