As Britain (and the rest of the world) show no sign of coming out of lockdown any time soon, musicians are making the most of their new-found free time to produce more music than ever.

Countless musicians have been forced to cancel their upcoming live shows and, in some cases, finish tours early – leaving them with a golden opportunity to produce more music.  This has been taken advantage of already, and artists such as Yungblud and The Rolling Stones have released songs that are actually about the lockdown – with the latter’s new song being their first single in eight years, proving just how productive this time away from performing can actually be.

However, many performers have been forced to delay the release of upcoming albums and/or singles due to the lockdown, in many cases because of the likely dip in record sales they would experience.  Musicians such as DMA’s, Declan McKenna and Liam Gallagher are examples of this, with Gallagher stating, in reference to his upcoming MTV Unplugged album, “As soon as the manufacturer is back in action, we’ll schedule a new date.”  Contrastingly, Glaswegian singer-songwriter Gerry Cinnamon has released his album on the date promised, writing on Instagram that it was “not smart to release during a lockdown when the shops are closed and everyone’s isolating but no chance I’m letting folk down.”  His dedication to his fans paid off, as his second album “The Bonny” made it to No. 1 on the UK and Ireland Charts.

This is only the beginning, as musicians such as Marcus Mumford, Matt Thomson of The Amazons and many more have suggested that they are writing more songs than ever; giving their fans something to look forward to within lockdown.
