Construction Continues as Hounslow Looks for Massive Reformation
NEW BUILDINGS INTRODUCED AS PART OF A MAMMOTH REGENERATION PROJECT
Hounslow is experiencing a huge reformation, with a large plot of land in Hounslow High Street currently under construction. New apartment blocks, a huge number of cafes, restaurants, retail shops as well as a new ‘Cineworld’ theatre are being introduced. But how much change will this project bring about to Hounslow? And how long will this project take to finish?
Barratt Developments, a residential property development company, started the ‘Barratt London’ project in Hounslow High Street Quarter, and is now a huge part of the overall construction. 527 homes are being constructed. The Cineworld chain is set to be the first addition to the ‘High Street Quarter development’ project, bringing a ten-screen multiplex cinema including an IMAX screen.
I decided to dig in, and find out how much this new project will mean to residents in Hounslow and how much change this project will bring.
“I remember when there used to be the main high street of Hounslow on one side, Asda on the other and a huge pathway separating the both. The pathway was also not very clean, and Asda stood isolated.” said a man (name anonymous). “This project will completely change Hounslow High street for sure. The construction of Cineworld will mean the street will be a lot more busier, even at night.”
But it’s not only the High Street that has experienced huge change. Last year, a new Hounslow Civic Centre was constructed just outside high street, close to Lampton Avenue, resulting in the old Civic Centre being demolished and new apartments constructed in place.
“Well, obviously, more and more people are planning to reside in Hounslow, and so new apartments are being built to accommodate for it.” To add on, there are regular apartment constructions replacing rural spaces or dilapidated buildings.
With all these ongoing constructions, it seems like only in just a few years, Hounslow will be almost unrecognizable.
