Nearly 30 million people around the UK have had their first vaccine which is amazing news and comes at a time where we have just hit one year in lockdown.

Vaccines mean fewer people will get Covid-19 and those who do are far less likely to go to hospital or to die. As well as protecting you, vaccines also help to protect your family, friends and other people you come into contact with. As of the end of March, the government is currently vaccinating people over the age of 50, as well as carers, and people with underlying health issues.

The easiest way to get involved is to just get in touch with your GP who will have all the information, or just make an appointment yourself, as long as your age group is currently being vaccinated. I was lucky enough to get in touch with Alexander, someone who went to get his first vaccine in the Science Museum near South Kensington a few days ago. He mentioned that he “felt very excited and extremely privileged to finally be able to get a vaccine and see a light at the end of the tunnel.” I asked him how the process of the vaccination was, and Alex replied by mentioning how “the staff were extremely friendly and their main priority was always to make sure that you felt as comfortable as possible.” He also explained that “they were always very efficient” and that he felt “very happy that we can slowly see an end to this”.

However, just because we are lucky enough to have such a good distribution of vaccines, doesn’t mean that life immediately goes back to normal. You still need to wear a mask in crowded spaces, as well as indoors and also follow the government guidelines.
